Aug 27: 10-2pm  Wildcat Student Employment Fair
SUMC North Ballroom
Undergraduate Initiatives in collaboration with Career Services once again offers the Wildcat Student Employment Fair to provide University departments and programs with an interactive and direct method of recruiting and hiring student employees and/or interns. Higher Education research tells us that if students must work, on campus employment has a positive impact on persistence, degree completion, timely graduation, and the probability of enrollment in graduate or professional school.  On campus employment also enhances students' involvement with and integration into institutions of higher education. This year's fair, held on Wednesday of the first week of classes in the Student Union Memorial Center North Ballroom, promises to be highly attended by both departments seeking student employees and/or interns and students seeking on-campus employment. Over 45 departments and over 500 students attended last fall's fair. In addition to informational tables, demonstrations for both students and campus employers of the Wildcat JobLink system and resume checks for students will be held onsite. Prior to the Fair, students will be able to access a list of participating departments and their available positions via the Career Services website. However, they will not be able to apply online for open positions through Wildcat JobLink until after the fair. If your department is interested in participating, please visit the registration website located at http://www.career.arizona.edu/faculty/?wsef
and register by Friday, August 8, 2008.  Participation in the Wildcat Student Employment Fair is limited to university departments only, and there is no cost to departments to register. Once you register, be sure to click on the link to Career Services' Wildcat JobLink ( http://www.career.arizona.edu/?joblink-faculty) to post your department's student employment or internship opportunities.
For more information about the Wildcat Student Employment Fair please contact Lizzie Schloss, Associate Director of Career Services at (520) 621-2746 or via email at schloss@email.arizona.edu.

Sept 3: 4:00 pm - Where in the World Will Our Energy Come From?
Center for Creative Photography Auditorium
Dr. Nate Lewis, Professor of Chemistry at California Institute of Technology speaks as part of The University of Arizona College of Engineering and the College of Science lecture series: Energy, Sustainability, and the Environment. Where in the world will our energy come from? What would it take for the world to get away from fossil fuels and switch over to renewable energy? It takes more than willingness to buy a Prius or to have solar panels installed on your roof. If we want to use wind, solar thermal, solar electric, biomass, hydroelectric and geothermal energy it will take a lot of planning, and willingness on the part of governments and industry. It takes R&D investment, a favorable price per unit of energy to get anyone to produce alternative energy, and plenty of resources to create those energy sources. Lewis will discuss these and other hurdles-technical, political, and economic- that must be overcome before the widespread adoption of renewable energy technologies. For more information please visit http://sustainability.arizona.edu

Oct 21: 2-5pm - High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Training
USA room 104
The HOV training program has been modified to meet State of Arizona requirements. HOVs are defined as any full size van or Sport Utility Vehicle with seating capacity of 8-15, and full size cargo vans. Minivans and SUVs with seating capacity of less than 8 do NOT require HOV driver training or certification. All HOV drivers (faculty, staff, students, volunteers) must attend a classroom training session, AND successfully complete a behind-the-wheel road test conducted by RM&S or other authorized observer. Road tests conducted by RM&S are scheduled separately from the classroom training, and must be done by appointment. The behind-the-wheel road test takes about 30 minutes to complete. Departments may conduct the behind-the-wheel road test at their own convenience with their own staff upon prior approval and authorization by RM&S. Those interested in conducting their own behind-the-wheel road tests should contact John Murphy at 621-4551 or murphjoh@email.arizona.edu for orientation and approval. For details on these new requirements, and other important policy changes, see the new UA Fleet Safety Policy.  Classes are subject to cancellation or re-scheduling based on the number of registrations received.  To register for an HOV training session, or a behind-the-wheel road test, contact Sara Thomas at 626-1136 or sthomas@email.arizona.edu or register on-line. For questions about the training requirement and HOV policy, contact John Murphy at 621-4551 or murphjoh@email.arizona.edu.
