Arizona requirements. HOVs are defined as any full size van

Feb 16: 12:00-1:00pm - Introducing
STEP UP- a Special Overview Presentation for Faculty and
Staff
McKale Center Auditorium (108)
I would like to take this opportunity
and introduce you to STEP UP! - an award wining bystander
intervention program (www.stepupprogram.org
<
http://www.stepupprogram.org/> ) developed through the
C.A.T.S. Life Skills program that many groups on our campus
are now using, as well as colleges, universities and other
organizations nationwide. In advance of STEP UP! Day on
campus (March 1, 2010) I would like to invite you to a
special overview presentation of STEP UP! on Tuesday
February 16th from 12:00-1:00 in McKale Center Auditorium
(108). Dr. Scott Goldman and I will be presenting. Light
refreshments will be served and you are welcome to bring a
brown bag lunch. STEP UP! teaches students to
intervene in problematic situations - including emergencies
and non emergencies and in both direct and indirect ways
(i.e. alcohol, hazing, depression, sexual
assault/relationship violence, eating disorders,
discrimination, etc.) It is geared toward a student
population and examines why people don't help, the 5
Decision Making Steps and how to increase helping using the
SEE Model (Safe; early; Effective). For those that have
direct contact with and interaction with students this
program is highly recommended. STEP UP! has shown positive
results, has been extremely well received by students.
Recently it won national acclaim with a NASPA Gold Medal. I
guarantee it will be eye-opening and informative. You can
find out more at
www.stepupprogram.org Please RSVP by

Natural History of Human Locomotion." The lecture is

Inn on 2200 E. Elm Street. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m.
The cost is

This year's lecture series is titled "New Intersections" and
will explore the exciting interdisciplinary research
enhanced by CLAS. The series is sponsored by the UA
Foundation. For a complete list of this year's lectures, go
to:
http://web.sbs.arizona.edu/college/node/437
Description of Lecture & Speaker - The evolution
of upright bipedal walking has long defined the origins of
the human lineage. More recently, the use of endurance
running marks the divergence of our genus from other
hominids. Understanding why our unique gait evolved may hold
the key to explaining the origins of our species. This talk
will examine research in biomechanics, paleontology and
neurobiology to tell the story of human evolution through
our footsteps. Professor David Raichlen is a broadly
trained biological anthropologist who is interested in the
origins and evolution of the human lineage. He received a
B.S. from Duke University in 1998. He received his M.A. in
2000 and his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Texas at
Austin. His research focuses on the evolution of human and
nonhuman primate locomotion, evolutionary physiology, and
the evolution of the human brain.

Book Signing & Discussion: Gabriel Thompson
UA BookStore (SUMC), General Books Department, Main
Floor
What is it like
doing the back-breaking work of immigrants? To find out,
Gabriel Thompson spent the year working alongside Latino
immigrants, who initially thought he was either crazy or an
undercover immigration agent. He stooped over lettuce fields
in Arizona and worked the graveyard shift at a chicken
slaughterhouse in rural Alabama. He dodged taxis—not always
successfully—as a bicycle delivery “boy” for an upscale
Manhattan restaurant, and was fired from a flower shop by a
boss who, he quickly realized, was nuts. Combining
personal narrative with investigative reporting, Thompson
shines a bright light on the underside of the American
economy, exposing harsh working conditions, union busting,
and lax government enforcement—while telling the stories of
workers, undocumented immigrants and desperate US citizens
alike, forced to live with chronic pain in the pursuit of $8
an hour. About the Author: Gabriel
Thompson has contributed to New York, The Nation, New York
Times, Brooklyn Rail, In These Times and others. He is the
recipient of the Richard J. Margolis Award, the Studs Terkel
Media Award, and a collective Sidney Hillman Award. His
writings are collected at
www.wherethesilenceis.org. The author of There’s No José
Here and Calling All Radicals, he lives in Brooklyn.

Send your thanks to
our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.
If you go to the
web site
http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card
and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is
currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it
will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it
only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers
received a bunch of these? I sent mine, now you send one too! |

Curb Auto
Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!
The Watch Your Car
decal program is a free, voluntary program that
vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the
Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is
then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
database and participants receive decals for their
front and rear windows. By displaying the decals,
vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials
that their vehicle is not usually in use between the
hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of
auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the
Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also
authorize law enforcement officials to stop their
vehicle at any time during the day or night within
one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that
the vehicle is being illegally operated.
If a police officer
witnesses the vehicle in operation between these
hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and
verify it is being legally operated by the rightful
owner.
To
register for the program online go to:
