Sept 5: Noon-1pm - Navigating the Rapids: Career Advancement in a White Water World workshop
University Services Bldg, Room 214
On average, individuals will change careers five to seven times during their professional work life. Couple this statistic along with the fact that there has been a steady shift away from the “traditional” view of a career within the past decade. As a result, promotion up the ladder to a higher level position is no longer seen as the only career path. Also, needs and priorities change and emerge throughout your career stages. In this interactive workshop you will have an opportunity to review and re-align your career path. You will gain tools and techniques to highlight the skills and competencies you have acquired along the way and the insight to take charge and manage your next career moves.  For more information on the Career Development Workshops call 621-7701 or register online http://www.hr.arizona.edu/08_o/development3/.

Locations will be provided to participants upon registration

By becoming affiliated with SafeZONE, you are indicating that you will be an identifiable source of support and nurturance for gay, lesbian, bi-affectionate, transgender, and questioning students, faculty, and staff on The University of Arizona campus. Your participation in SafeZONE sends a message to campus community members that you are available to talk about their concerns, whether they be those of acknowledged members of the gay, lesbian, bi-affectionate, and transgender community, of people questioning their sexuality, or concerns of fellow allies. Any student, faculty, or staff member is welcome and all are strongly encouraged to attend. It is the goal of the committee to have as many trained SafeZONE members as possible on campus. The training sessions provide participants with information on the gay, lesbian, bi-affectionate, transgender and questioning experience of students, faculty and staff. The ALLY DEVELOPMENT session is designed to provide participants with information that will help them become allies for LGBTQ members of our community. Facilitators assume that participants come with an understanding of issues facing LGBTQ people and understand concepts of heterosexism and homophobia as well as some understanding about gender variance & expression. Participants who complete this session WILL receive a SafeZONE placard. The session requires participation among all members. Participants need only bring an open mind. All other materials, including an allys resource packet, will be provided at the training. To register for one of these workshops, please email safezone@life.arizona.edu or call 621-5453.

Send your thanks to our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.

If you go to the web site http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq.  You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.  It is FREE and it only takes a second.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?  I sent mine, now you send one too!

Curb Auto Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!

The Watch Your Car decal program is a free, voluntary program that vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) database and participants receive decals for their front and rear windows. By displaying the decals, vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials that their vehicle is not usually in use between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also authorize law enforcement officials to stop their vehicle at any time during the day or night within one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that the vehicle is being illegally operated.

If a police officer witnesses the vehicle in operation between these hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and verify it is being legally operated by the rightful owner.

To register for the program online go to: https://www.aata.state.az.us/Watch_Your_Car/Info_Request/signup_request.html

Register by mail by downloading the form at: http://www.azwatchyourcar.com/pdfs/WYC%20-%20application%20form%20for%20website.pdf  Print it, fill it out and mail back.
