UA Cares:
Campaign for Community Giving
The Staff Advisory
Council has always been proud to support our staff as well as our
community. One way that we can do this is through our participation
in the annual charitable giving campaign on campus, UA Cares.
As you receive your
UA Cares pledge form I ask that you take a moment to consider what
matters most to you and make a simple gift that can change a life
and our community in so many ways. Through this year’s campaign you
will again be able to support any non-profit from the Tucson
community or any University program or area of your choice. You may
also consider giving to one of the broader United Way Community
Impact Areas or to the University of Arizona’s Fund for Excellence
to make the greatest impact possible.
In addition SAC has identified an exciting and relevant program for
your consideration this year:
The
Emily Krauz Endowment Fund. Should you choose to
support the Emily Krauz Staff Endowment Fund, please write its name
in the space provided on your hard-copy pledge sheet or as you make
your gift online at
http://uacares.arizona.edu/pledge.shtml.
Charitable giving
decisions are individual, personal and private decisions. As you
consider the myriad of charitable giving options this year, please
remember that even the smallest gifts can go a long way to improve
lives, so just imagine what we can do when an entire department,
college and university all works together for the common good.
I thank each of you
for your past participation and for your consideration in supporting
the Tucson and/or the University of Arizona community through UA
Cares. If you have any questions regarding the campaign or about
specific giving options, please contact
Ana Rodriguez, SAC
Committee Chair at 621-2977.

Oct 3: 7pm - The Origins of Gold in
South Africa
UMC Duval Auditorium
Ancient rivers filled with gold, a
spectacular upwelling of magma, and a colossal meteor impact
combined to make the Witwatersrand basin a special place.
This basin contains almost as much gold as there has been
estimates for the rest of the earth's uppermost crust
combined. Interest in the origin of these deposits,
and more than a hundred years of mining and scientific
research, have revealed a complex history for these
gold-bearing conglomerates. Dr. Ruiz discusses the steps
taken towards answering questions about the origin of the
Witwatersrand gold. Dr. Joaquin Ruiz is recognized for
his research involving the formation of metallic ore
deposits and the factors responsible for the origin of
ore-forming elements in copper and gold ore deposits at or
near the earth's surface. Dr. Ruiz joined the faculty of
Geosciences at The University of Arizona in 1983 and was
named head of the Department of Geosciences in 1995. In
2000 he became Dean of the College of Science. This
series is free and open to the public. Please contact us
for further information or to request disability related
accommodations either via email at
amarx@email.arizona.edu or call 626.8121. Parking is
available in the parking garage immediately east of the
University Medical Center for $1.50 per hour. |

Curb Auto
Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!
The Watch Your Car
decal program is a free, voluntary program that
vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the
Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is
then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
database and participants receive decals for their
front and rear windows. By displaying the decals,
vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials
that their vehicle is not usually in use between the
hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of
auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the
Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also
authorize law enforcement officials to stop their
vehicle at any time during the day or night within
one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that
the vehicle is being illegally operated.
If a police officer
witnesses the vehicle in operation between these
hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and
verify it is being legally operated by the rightful
owner.
To
register for the program online go to:
