Take a look around you. You recognize people who
are dedicated to the University, who are always ready to help,
and who make the University a great place to work. Now, take a
moment and nominate those people for an Award for Excellence so
that the rest of the University can appreciate them also.
We urge you to take advantage of this
opportunity. |

Volunteer with Hospice Family
Care in the New Year!
Next training class starts
January 18, 2007…it’s FREE!
Hospice Family Care
volunteers are people who are trained to provide
companionship and assistance to terminally ill
people and their families. They come from all walks
of life and generously offer their time to people in
need. Patients are at home or are in skilled care
facilities. Our philosophy reflects a strong
emphasis on quality of life in the end stages of
life. The next volunteer training begins Thursday,
January 18 from 5:30p-9:30p. The class runs six
consecutive Thursdays at our office near Speedway
and Wilmot. Upon ”graduation” you determine the
number of hours you wish to volunteer.
Volunteering for Hospice
Family Care does not require a lot of time; all you
need is compassion and the willingness to share the
time you have with people who can benefit from your
companionship. Volunteering is fun. Some
volunteers take patients shopping, others play cards
and games or share their musical talents.
Frequently volunteers provide a much needed break
for the caregiver at home with the patient. We also
need volunteers to help with office work and
telephone support.
Four times per year,
Hospice Family Care conducts free Hospice Volunteer
training classes. Training is one time per week for
six weeks and is held at our offices near El Dorado
Hospital. There is no cost for training materials.
Some topics covered during training include
communication skills, spiritual dynamics of death
and dying, caring for the caregiver, bereavement,
hospice social service issues, and many more.

The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Tucson Celebrity Waiters Dinner
is Friday, May 4, 2007. It honors two decades of
volunteer service of Dr. George Birger. We ask you to consider
being a Corporate Sponsor and/or donating an item or items for the
auction that evening. We also need hundreds of smaller items for
our $10 Balloon Pop Drawing (each item being valued for at least
$10).
With someone being diagnosed every 5 minutes with leukemia or
its related diseases of Hodgkin’s, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma,
our challenge is clear. We MUST find a cure, and need many generous
friends to help achieve that goal. Every ten minutes someone in
this country dies of a blood cancer. Please become our partner in
working toward a cure for this #1 child-killing disease.
We appreciate your consideration and thank you in advance for any
donation(s) possible. You are bringing hope to thousands of newly
diagnosed blood cancer patients because of your help. Since its
inception, the Dinner has raised close to $700,000 and supported
many researchers at the University of Arizona and the Arizona Cancer
Center. Dr. Nicholas Larmonier of Tucson began his $150,000 grant
from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society July 1.
Please contact Jackie Palmenberg at the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society’s Phoenix office (PalmenbergJ@lls.org)
if you have any questions about the Society’s programs and
services. While we hope you or your family never need the services
of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we are here to help if you do. -

Send your thanks to
our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.
If you go to the
web site
http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card
and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is
currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it
will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it
only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers
received a bunch of these? I sent mine, now you send one too! |

Curb Auto
Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!
The Watch Your Car
decal program is a free, voluntary program that
vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the
Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is
then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
database and participants receive decals for their
front and rear windows. By displaying the decals,
vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials
that their vehicle is not usually in use between the
hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of
auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the
Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also
authorize law enforcement officials to stop their
vehicle at any time during the day or night within
one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that
the vehicle is being illegally operated.
If a police officer
witnesses the vehicle in operation between these
hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and
verify it is being legally operated by the rightful
owner.
To
register for the program online go to:
