Apr 3: 7pm - Earth Time: Reconstructing
the History of Planet Earth
UMC Duval Auditorium
Professor George Gehrels speaks on
Earth processes operate
over a huge range of time: earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in just
seconds whereas continents form on a time scale of millions to billions of
years. Reconstructing the history of such processes has traditionally been
done by comparison with the fossil record, but
recent developments in the
field of geochronology provide new and exciting opportunities for
development of an absolute chronology of earth
history.
This series is free and open to the public. Please
contact us for further
information or to request disability related
accommodations either via email
amarx@email.arizona.edu or call 626-8121.

Apr 28: Young Women's Empowerment Academy formerly known
as Daughters on Campus Day
SU and ILC
The Commission on the Status of Women is pleased to announce
the creation of the first annual Young Women's Empowerment
Academy (YWEA). The academy is an interactive conference
with the goals of helping pre-teen and teenaged girls to
build self-esteem, strengthen decision-making skills, and
empower them to aspire to a college education. The academy
is open to persons ranging in age from 12 - 16 years at the
time of the event. Please encourage your daughters, nieces,
sisters, etc. to enroll if they meet the age requirement.
There are five volunteer facilitators who will run
concurrent sessions and students will be able to choose
three of the five session topics to attend. Topics will
cover peer pressure, setting and pursuing goals, self-esteem
and body image, aspiring to higher education, and positive
attitude and communication development. Students will also
be able to evaluate each presentation. This event is free
and the number of seats is limited to 75, so enrollment will
be on a first-come-first-served basis and registration will
be closed on April 18 at 5:00 pm. If you have relatives
between the ages of 12 - 16 who are interested in attending,
please have them fill out the online registration form at
www.csw.arizona.edu (click on the "Young
Women's Empowerment Academy" link in the "Spotlight" portion
of the Web page). This event is reserved for the
participants alone and no dining or event accommodations
have been made for parents/caregivers. Transportation
arrangements will need to be made. We look forward to
engaging these young people in the process of empowerment.
If you have any questions, please contact Shelley McGrath at
626-0707.

Send your thanks to
our soldiers.
It only takes a minute and is so worthwhile.
If you go to the
web site
http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can pick out a thank you card
and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is
currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it
will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it
only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers
received a bunch of these? I sent mine, now you send one too! |

Curb Auto
Theft with the Watch Your Car Program:
It's Quick, Easy and FREE!
The Watch Your Car
decal program is a free, voluntary program that
vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the
Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is
then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
database and participants receive decals for their
front and rear windows. By displaying the decals,
vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials
that their vehicle is not usually in use between the
hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of
auto thefts occur. In addition, by enrolling in the
Watch Your Car Program, vehicle owners also
authorize law enforcement officials to stop their
vehicle at any time during the day or night within
one mile of the border, if there is a suspicion that
the vehicle is being illegally operated.
If a police officer
witnesses the vehicle in operation between these
hours, they have the right to stop the vehicle and
verify it is being legally operated by the rightful
owner.
To
register for the program online go to:
