Human Resources
and CCIT are pleased to announce that a new
Employee Link Benefits Open Enrollment
system will be introduced during the
annual open enrollment period from August 29
to September 16, 2005. Over the past several
months, a development team has partnered to
create an easy-to-use, customized system
that will make your 2005 benefits enrollment
easier than ever!
By adding
this exciting feature within Employee Link,
you no longer need an extra log-in and PIN
to complete your annual benefits
elections…just use your existing University
of Arizona NetID and password to access your
current benefits and make any desired
changes to your insurance plans,
beneficiaries and dependents. If you do not
have a NetID or need to reset your password,
you may do so through the University's NetID
website at
http://netid.arizona.edu.
Employee Link
currently allows you to access your personal
and employment information at The University
of Arizona. You can update your home
address, check your vacation and sick
balances, view your paycheck stubs and
deductions, print copies of your W-2, revise
your state and federal tax withholding
information, and verify your UA employment
history back to 1991. Check out the
convenient features at
http://emplink.arizona.edu.
We're always looking for ways to enhance
Employee Link and welcome your suggestions and
feedback.
Emily Krauz Staff Scholarship Applications
Due August 10th!
Emily Krauz , a member of the
classified staff at the University of Arizona, spent a great
deal of her career working in alone in an office. Because she
worked in a “one-person” capacity, there was never an
opportunity for her to take classes. When she died, Emily left
an endowment which would fund classified staff members who
wanted to take classes to further their careers at the
University. You are invited and encouraged to take advantage of
this opportunity to further your University career; that is, if
there is a class or training which would help you advance your
career at the University and you are willing to put in the time
to take the class or training, we are there to help you make
this possible.
The Emily Krauz scholarship is
awarded twice a year. Monetary awards are made on a
reimbursement basis. Winners submit original receipts for
tuition and books and receive a check from the UA Foundation to
reimburse for those expenses. Gas, child care, computers and
meals are not eligible for reimbursement at this time.
Hospice Training Begins September 15 -
Hospice
Family Care
Do you
respect and revere life? Have you felt
a tug in your heart to help people who
are dying? Have you experienced that
sense of honor and privilege when
spending time with a dying person?
Maybe you
have no experience at all -- but a lot
of interest, questions and a big heart!
Hospice Family Care
volunteers come from many backgrounds
and share a sensitivity to the needs of
patients and families. They are trained
to provide assistance and companionship
such as shopping and running errands or
playing games and cards. Patients are
usually at home, in a skilled-care
facility or in an inpatient unit (Swan
and River). Any person sixteen years of
age or older who has completed a
comprehensive, free training program is
welcome to volunteer.
The next training series
begins
Thursday, September 15, 2005
from .
Classes meet for six Thursdays to cover
communication skills, spiritual dynamics
of death and dying, caring for the
caregiver, bereavement, hospice social
service issues and more.
If you embrace a
philosophy of supportive care, and would
like to volunteer, please contact Vicki
Smith, Volunteer Coordinator, 790-9299
or email:
vsmith007@hotmail.com
for a volunteer application and
questionnaire.

Staff Council Seeks
Active Members
Classified
staff members who want to be more involved in University
processes and maintain a venue for their opinions to be
heard are invited to apply or make nominations for
membership to the Staff Advisory Council. New members will
be appointed to three-year terms.
The council provides a forum for discussing issues related
to staff as a resource for many on- and off-campus inquiring
groups. In the past year, SAC has had representatives
address the council from UA Human Resources, Parking and
Transportation, the UA Web Council, Ombuds Program,
Strategic Planning and Budget Committee, UA provost and
state legislators and liaisons. The council in turn makes
recommendations on existing and proposed University policies
and procedures to ensure classified staff members are
considered and included in the processes.
In addition, the council has several subcommittees that
organize fund-raising activities, create networking
opportunities and camaraderie among staff and other UA
groups, recognize outstanding employees, manage a
scholarship endowment that benefits staff members who choose
to further their education, and advocates for legislative
activities that support the UA and classified staff.
Nominations are being accepted on the Staff
Advisory Council Web site under the Membership
Application heading. Nominees must be non-probationary
classified staff employees who are energetic, conscientious,
and concerned with staff issues. Each must be willing to
commit eight hours a month to SAC activities.
UA
President Peter Likins and the Wildcat
Welcome Executive Committee need your help
during Wildcat Welcome 2005. Mark your
calendars now and plan to join the UA with
assisting students and their parents settle
in at the UA. This is a great opportunity to
welcome students and let them know that we
really are glad they are here.
Volunteers are needed for this year's
Wildcat Welcome, scheduled for Wednesday,
Aug. 17, through Friday, Aug. 26. The
program provides a variety of fun-filled,
free or minimal-cost activities for new and
returning students to welcome them to
campus. Volunteers are needed for two major
of the Welcome.
"Ask Me" booths will be strategically
located around campus to provide directions
and assistance to students Aug. 17-23.
If you can volunteer, call or e-mail
Juliette Moore at 621-8707 to request a
registration form. Participants also can
pick up a registration form online at
http://www.union.arizona.edu/welcome/index.php.
Feel free to sign up for more than one event
and more than one time block.
The residence hall move-in is Aug. 17-18.
Volunteers can adopt a hall to assist with
move-in and other needs of the students in
the hall. Contact either
Samantha Zipp at (626-9337) or
Christine Salvesen site a 626-9234 V or
621-3268 TTY for additional information and
a sign-up sheet for the Adopt-a-Hall
program.
Volunteers will receive a confirmation of
their registration during the first week of
August. Volunteer training sessions for all
programs listed above are scheduled for
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 3:30 to 5 p.m., and Friday,
Aug. 12, 8:30 to 10 a.m. Feel free to attend
either training session. Both sessions will
be held in the Student Union Memorial
Center, Kiva. No advance registration is
necessary for the training.
All Wildcat Welcome volunteers will receive
free T-shirts. Move-in participants who have
handcarts available in their offices are
asked to bring them for use during the
move-in activities.
UA Life & Work Connections will be
relocating its offices on Thursday and
Friday, August 11-12, to better serve our university
clients. Our new location is: Foundation Annex,
Building 0416, 1125 N Vine, Second floor, (SE corner of
Helen & Vine). All UA Life & Work Connections programs
will move to the new location, including Child Care, Elder
