The Awards for Excellence Steering Committee enjoys making the surprise visits to announce the winners of the 2008 awards and being part of the surprise patrol is always gratifying.

Jack was startled when the surprise patrol broke into his shop's meeting, but was pleased to learn he was this year's first winner of the Staff Awards for Excellence.

The surprise patrol traveled all the was to the UA South Campus to deliver the news that Carol had won a Staff Award for Excellence.  Carol was surprised to see the group with several cameras interrupting the Campus' SAC meeting, but was happy with the news and to have everyone congratulate her with cake afterwards.

The surprise patrol interrupted a section meeting to announce Christopher's award.  He was glad to hear how much folks appreciated all his hard work and was even happier when the committee unrolled his big check!

Paula was very surprised to have a bunch of folks with cameras break into her meeting with the Director and Business Manager.  She said it was surreal to see all the folks who turned out to congratulate her and enjoy her cake.

Kim was caught off guard when his wife and a bunch of folks with cameras came into his shops meeting and asked for him.  He was pleased to find out he was one of this years staff award winners.

Although the library is usually a place where quiet reigns a bit of a hoopla was caused when the surprise patrol descended to make Travis' notification.  He was more than happy to allow some noise when his big check was unfurled.

This was one hard visit to plan complete with secret calls and strategic time keeping.  We were glad we could pull it off and Lynn seemed very pleased to be notified.

Our patrol surprised Brett during a meeting and although shy he was persuaded to get up and be honored with his notification that he was a winner.

It was tough for the surprise patrol to squeeze into the little office where Arezu was holding a meeting, but we did it.  Arezu was surprised and happy to take her picture with her check, nominator and department head.

We didn't find the entire team together, but were happy to catch part of them during a meeting.  Those present were more than happy to hear the news and promised to share their winnings with the whole team.

The Billy Joe Varney Award

The surprise patrol had to squeeze into the elevator to make it  to this meeting, but it was worth it to see how surprised Ted was to hear he was this year's Billy Joe Varney award winner.  He is a great admirer or Billy Joe and was honored to receive the news.
