The Awards for Excellence Steering Committee enjoys making the surprise visits to announce the winners of the 2007 awards and being part of the surprise patrol is always gratifying.



Richard Lower
Plumbing Shop Supervisor
Facilities Management

Rick was reluctant to join the team when called upon at a campus facilities meeting, but was very pleased to learn he was this year's first winner of the Staff Awards for Excellence.



Charles Fellows
Lead Technical Systems Engineer
Lunar & Planetary Laboratory

Charles was distracted by the group of folks carrying cameras heading into the foyer conference area during his meeting, but was pleasantly surprised by the announcement of his award.  Friends and family were also there with flowers to congratulate him.


Claudia Miller

The surprise patrol interrupted a department luncheon to announce Claudia's award.  She was moved to tears of happiness when she learned how much folks appreciated all her hard work.  The committee was even invited to partake of the food and large cage in her honor.



Derek Masseth
Systems Programmer, Principal
CCIT - Computing Services

The surprise patrol had to take a moment to catch their breath after climbing the stairs to this meeting, but Derek said he didn't have that excuse for how breathless he was upon hearing he was a recipient of one of this year's awards.

There was a large meeting going on in this very small room where Susie was very surprised by the invading SAC team.  Susie had made a birthday cake for one of her committee persons and then found they committee presented her with another cake in her honor.

Robin rushed right past the surprise patrol on her way to the 'meeting' that had been called by her department.  Imagine her surprise when her award was announced by her good friend Eva.

 


Nancy Smith

Nancy was told a birthday party had been arranged - a month early! The real surprise however came when she was told about her Award for Excellence.

The team was hard at work in a meeting when the surprise patrol barged in and started filming.  The department head was available to congratulate them for their well deserved award and folks celebrated with cake and soda.

While waiting for the surprise patrol, this team was put on the hot seat with no apparent reason. They were gladly relieved when they found out the real reason for this meeting.  

The Billy Joe Varney Award

Terry had to be called into this "meeting" and found her family and friends present to congratulate her on winning this years Billy Joe Varney award.
