Good food, Vendor Fair and Door Prizes

Keynote - Peter Likins
UA President

Cost included: meals, workshops, vendor fair access, chair massage and door prizes!

The fun began right at registration when everyone picked up their names, programs and bags.

SAC had an information table where folks could hear more about what SAC does and how they can become involved.

The vendor fair was open with lots of great information and goodies too.

Attendees had plenty of time to visit the vendor area throughout the day and there was plenty of networking time built in to the schedule too.

Cathy Nicholson gave two great presentations: A SAC History and How to Manage Priorities in Life and Work

More Scenes from the Conference

Session Descriptions

Disaster Preparedness - Commander Brian Seastone, University of Arizona Police Department - In the last year natural disasters have pummeled the whole world from hurricanes hitting New Orleans and the surrounding gulf areas,  to tsunamis in Sri Lanka and earthquakes in Pakistan.  Thousands have been killed and more left homeless.  Americans are also faced the threat of man-made disasters such as 9/11.   Commander Seastone will discuss what you can do to prepare you and your family for any disaster.  He will also discuss the steps the University of Arizona is taking to prepare for  disasters.

Money Management - Stephen L Saradnik All of us have financial goals we want to achieve—buying a home, paying for college, saving for retirement. The key is preparation. Saving money to meet your future financial goals begins today, with a candid analysis of your financial situation. This workshop includes effective cash management disciplines and credit management tips.

Retirement & Financial PlanningGeorge Maytorena, AIG  - What goals do you have for your retirement years? What will your sources of retirement income be? Will your income be adequate to achieve your goals? This workshop will help you understand the elements of retirement planning and cover a step-by-step process to plan for your retirement. Topics include social security, employer-sponsored retirement plans, and supplemental savings plans.

Caring for Yourself, Your Parents and Children - Jan Sturges, Caregiver Outreach Specialist for the Family Caregiver Outreach Program Many adults now help older relatives with financial, housing and transportation assistance.  They may also be parenting their children and/or grandchildren at the same time and as such, are part of “the sandwich generation.”  From a planning and emotional perspective, learn about available UA and community resources in support of your unique responsibilities.

Finding Personal Balance - Caryn Jung, Senior Coordinator, UA Life & Work Connections Are you looking for child or elder care assistance and related resources and strategies to help minimize the day-to-day stresses of coordinating work and family needs?  Are you interested in alternative work options for a more balanced life?  If so, please join your colleagues for an informal dialogue on moving toward balance, and how University and community services can help you address your dependent care and work/life needs.

Identity Theft - Wendy Cevallos -  Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. While you can't entirely control whether you will become a victim, there are steps you can take to minimize your risk.

Career Assessment - Anila Dehart/Charles Hester - Many of us have changed significantly since we started our careers. It's likely you have different values, interests and motivations than when you were younger.  Life is too short to stay in a job you don't like. If your career has been rocked by the economic and political events of the past two years, or you just don't like your current job, perhaps you're wondering what else is possible.

Continuing Education - Jon Covington and Dr Darla Brown -  Not sure how to continue  your education  or how to  improve your work skills and knowledge?  Take charge of your education with convenient day, evening, weekend or online courses and programs.  Energize your career with professional development programs, computer education or custom courses.

Personal Safety & Road Rage - Sheriff Clarence Dupnik -  Violence and crime have taken on new faces in America.   Crime details from murders to fatale hit and run accidents are in every news report.  Recent news in Tucson tells of criminals casing homes in new ways.  Also a new form of violence has emerged on the streets and roads of America:  Road rage (also road violence) is the informal name for deliberately dangerous and/or violent behavior under the influence of heightened, violent emotion such as anger and frustration, involving an automobile in use
