The Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Awards Committees are each comprised of three members selected by MESA's Board of Directors. There are two committees, one overseeing submissions in the humanities and the other the Social Sciences. As a rule, a committee member from the previous year is asked to chair the following year's committee. The committees are charged with reviewing submissions for the dissertation awards and selecting award winners and honorable mentions. New committees are selected for each year's competition. The committees' membership is confirmed in early spring to accommodate the award's submission deadline of July 1.
