MESA held its 36th annual meeting, November 23-26 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC, with approximately 1,900 people in attendance. The meeting began on Saturday with a full day devoted to meetings of MESA's affiliated organizations. The meeting included a four-day FilmFest, an art exhibit, and a book exhibit with some 80+ exhibitors. The program featured 156 panels,  including special sessions on Iraq, Yemen,  the Arab-Israeli struggle, academic publishing in Middle East studies, state-of-the-academy workshop on attacks on academic freedom, Islam and Globalization, and a plenary address on American foreign policy. MESA President, Joel Beinin, gave his presidential address, "Middle East Studies After September 11," to a packed house of more than 800 people on Sunday evening.
