The convention rate is not available through the hotel's web site. To get the special rate, phone the hotel directly or phone the Hyatt toll-free reservation number and mention you are with "MESA" or "Middle East Studies Association."

The cut-off date for reservations at the group rate is October 16.

Please also note that hotels in California, including the Hyatt Regency, have begun to charge guests an "energy surcharge" of a little less than $3 per night in response to the California energy crisis and the rising cost of electricity in the state.

Other Lodging Options

Students may want to consider some of the youth hostels in the area. Visit Hostelling International at www.norcalhostels.org for information. In particular, a MESA member kindly provided MESA with information about the San Francisco-Downtown hostel located about a block from Union Square (312 Mason Street between Geary and O'Farrell Streets–about a mile from the Hyatt). He stayed at the hostel during the MESA 1997 annual meeting and found it to be "clean, affordable, and pleasant."  For transportation options within the city, visit Bay Area Transit Information.
