Scholarships/Graduate Support
Students may apply for academic year and summer FLAS fellowships. The Center actively participates in the Center for Arabic Study Abroad language program in Cairo as well as being a member of the American In­stitute for Maghrib Studies, American Institute for Yemeni Studies, American Research Center in Egypt, American Research Institute in Turkey, Middle East Studies Association, Turkish Studies Association, American Institute of Iranian Studies, and the Western States Con­sortium of Middle East Centers which sponsors an annual intensive language program during the summer. [Community support makes possible several scholarships for undergraduate students wishing to study a Middle Eastern language.] General university scholarships and low-rate interest government loans are also available 

Special Features
Study options at the UA include degrees in history, anthropology, sociology, economics, political science, geography, medicine, architecture, and business. The Center for Middle Eastern Studies collaborates closely with the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy, Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology, the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the College of Medicine, the Environmental Research Laboratory, the Office of Arid Lands Studies, the Southwest Institute for Research on Women and the Department of Women's Studies. The Middle East Studies Association is also headquartered at the University of Arizona. The Department of Near Eastern Studies and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies offer an interdepartmental approach to Near Eastern Studies covering the areas of Islamic North Africa, the Fertile Crescent and Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and those portions of the Indian subcontinent which are or have been historically under Muslim influence. Training is offered to students anticipating careers in teaching, government, business and related endeavors in which knowledge of the Middle East is essential. The Department of History offers a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Histories with a World History emphasis.
