The principal activities of the Centre are: providing documentation (journals, periodicals, etc) to scholars interested in Asian affairs;
public lectures; coordinating academic activities on Asia of the University of Geneva, the Institute of Development Studies and the
Graduate Institute of International Studies; publishing monographs on current Asian problems; promoting research on issues pertaining to relations between Asia and Europe; and holding periodic seminars on contemporary Asian problems

Additional Information
The growing importance of Asia in international relations led to the establishment of the Modern Asia Research Centre within the general
framework of the Graduate Institute of International Studies. At the time of its inauguration in 1971, the principal focus of its
activities was on China and South East Asia. In 1975, its area of interest was widened to encompass South Asia and Japan
