JUS 203b
Intermediate Modern Hebrew

Prerequisites: JUS 203a OR permission from Anat Maimon, Coordinator of the Hebrew Program.

Currently enrolled students go to D2L
Students must obtain a grade of "C" or higher in order to advance to the next level of Hebrew.

Course Description
JUS 203B is the second course of a full year of Intermediate Modern Hebrew and is only offered in the spring semesters. Students will be expected to compose short structured compositions. Students will be encouraged to write creatively about proposed topics or subjects of their choosing.

Reading and Comprehension:
By the end of the semester, students will be expected to read and comprehend short texts such as essays, newspaper article, stories, poems and more, (300 - 500 words).

Writing and Grammar:

  • Students will be expected to answer questions pertaining to intermediate-level texts in writing, using correct grammar, spelling and syntax.

  • Students will be expected to compose essays using opening, body and conclusion paragraphs. Such essays may cover topics related to current events, student’s daily experiences, hobbies and more.

  • Students will be encouraged to write creatively about subjects of their choosing.

  • Students will conjugate verbs in the past, present, and future tenses and in the Imperative form.

  • Students will expand their knowledge of verbs, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions and their conjugations.

Conversation and Comprehension
Students will be expected to conduct complete intermediate level conversations in Hebrew pertaining to their daily experiences, as well as discuss a variety of texts and general subjects introduced in class. Israeli songs will be taught periodically as a vehicle for vocabulary acquisition and introduction to Israeli culture.
