Blue Star Mothers of America,
AZ Chapter

EIN# 83-0481571

I have recently started the first AZ chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America, a nationally known support organization for mothers of deployed, or once deployed soldiers.

My son Robert is part of the 1/285th National Guard aviation unit out of Pinal Airpark in Marana. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan in January 2007. After he left, I felt that there was something I needed to do. After some research, I found that there wasn't any support programs for moms here in Arizona.

Think about it, most of the soldiers in this day and age are young...19-21. They all have mothers, but how are they coping? How are they feeling with their sons/daughters being away and fighting for our freedom everyday?

I found the Blue Star Moms organization but found that there was no AZ chapter. I have successfully started a chapter here and am doing my best to get the word out and get folks involved. We hear there are some soldiers who do not receive any packages from home and so we are looking to send care packages to units stationed both in Iraq and Afghanistan.  We want them all to know how much we support what they are doing and that we are behind them 100%.

I am collecting donation items (see attached list), magazines and cash to use for shipping charges. The magazines can be ones you receive and have already read and are ready to recycle (from this year please). Remember, these soldiers have no idea what has been happening here in the States, being so far away and out of touch. Magazines help to pass the lonely moments when they have time to relax.

People want to be supportive, but don’t know how. This is a perfect way to do your part in supporting our service men and women. I am collecting donations at the monthly SAC meetings the first Tuesday of every month usually at the Alumni Building from 3-5p.m. or donations can be dropped off at the Administration building, room 221G (Summer & Winter Session Office).

I’m also willing to come to you! You can call me directly at 626-9066 or 241-0336 with your location and I will be happy to pick up whatever you have.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Debbie Miller
