Healthy Habits for Life, series of six classes and an additional introduction class
Healthy Habits for Life is a six week program to help you build lifelong eating and fitness habits. This program is designed to help you make gradual permanent changes in your lifestyle resulting in higher energy levels, decreased health risks and the knowledge that you are treating your body the best you can. Each one hour session is packed with practical, easy to follow information to help you set individual attainable goals as it sets you on a course to positive lifestyle changes.

Current Research: Nutrition and Cancer Prevention How can you reduce your risk of contracting cancer? Discover what current research has found regarding the links between nutrition and cancer prevention.

Heart Healthy Eating Saturated fat, trans fatty acids, omega 3 fatty acids, soluble fiber - how do these components in the foods we eat translate into heart health or disease? This presentation is designed to help take the mystery out of choosing a heart healthy diet. Recipes and other practical suggestions for improving your heart health will be provided.

Dietary Suggestions for Lowering Your Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is often called "the silent killer", since often you never feel like you have it. However uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to heart disease, heart attacks, stroke, and kidney failure. Learn about the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's DASH diet (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension), and other suggestions to keep your blood pressure in a normal range.

Effective Weight Management: Overcoming the Barriers
 What is a healthy weight for you? How can you maintain a healthy weight when time and energy are in short supply? We will explore some of the concepts of achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight.

What are Type II Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome, and How Can I Prevent them? With the increased number of obese and overweight people in the United States, there has been a rise in the number of people diagnosed with both the Metabolic Syndrome (or Syndrome X) and Diabetes. We will review their definitions and some of the ways to prevent them.

Osteoporosis Prevention: Maintaining Bone Health Osteoporosis is a disease of weak porous bones that can be easily broken, causing pain and loss of independence. This presentation will provide information on its prevention, discussing the areas of diet and physical activity.

Understanding the New Food Guide Pyramid, and the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans There are some exciting new concepts brought forth in the new My Pyramid website. Come and hear what the Department of Health and Human Services and the USDA have developed for our optimal nutrition practices.

Life Cycle Nutrition Issues: From Preconception to Death
From preconception to death, people have special nutritional requirements to assure health and growth. These requirements can be translated into food choices and dietary patterns that incorporate current knowledge of nutrition's role in health and disease, and reflect a person's individual culture and genetic heritage. Nutrition in all stages of life can be the topic of a one hour presentation. Areas include: Preconception Nutrition, Nutrition in Pregnancy, Breastfeeding Your Infant, Nutrition in the First Year of Life, Toddler Nutrition, Feeding Your Preschooler, Teen Nutrition, Nutrition and the Athlete, Nutrition and the Pregnant Teen, Important Nutrition Considerations for Those in Mid-Life, Nutrition and the Aging.

Physical Activity at Work How do you find time to fit exercise into an already too busy day? Most of us know how important physical activity is, but finding the time can be challenging. This class will explore some possible ways to increase your physical activity, including exercises that can be done at your desk or in your office.

Developing a Healthy Body Image This presentation will explore the need for self acceptance and how to have a realistic view of your body and health.

Walking for Health Pathways Walking for Health Pathways Presentation: Learn about the benefits of walking and how to find ways to walk here on campus. The "UA Walking for Health Pathways" is featured, with its up to date information and campus maps for the north, central and south campus, which include mileage and descriptions of the pathways in a printable format.
